Stories Of The South is a country favoured party outfit blending heartfelt storytelling with driving rhythms and infectious energy – think Mr Brightside meets Country Roads. Fronted by Matt on guitar and vocals, and powered by Tim’s dynamic musicianship, the band delivers a sound that’s both rich in tradition and refreshingly modern — a fusion of folk- inspired melodies and rock-inspired grit that captivates audiences wherever they play.

Matt leads the band with his soulful vocals and deft guitar work. A true multi-instrumentalist, he’s equally at home on bass or behind the drum kit. When he’s not performing, Matt runs his own recording studio, producing and recording some of the best up-and-coming artists across England. Outside the studio, his drive extends to the open road — as an avid runner, he’s completed numerous marathons and ultra-marathons. Whether he’s recording, performing, or training, Matt finds balance in family life with his partner, their dog Marshall, and a shared love of music. His influences span from experimental and progressive sounds to the new wave of country and folk — a passion that’s seen him perform at over a thousand weddings across the UK.

Tim, raised in a musical family, has music running through his veins. His career has taken him around the world, touring across the USA and Europe with a variety of bands. His versatility and dedication shine through every performance, particularly when helping couples celebrate their
special day. Tim’s influences range from the hard-hitting rock of Linkin Park, Slipknot, and Limp Bizkit to the storytelling and soul of country legends like Brad Paisley, Johnny Cash, and Chris Stapleton. This blend of genres gives his playing a distinctive edge — a punchy mix of country warmth and rock intensity that fuels the band’s signature sound. Offstage, Tim’s energy doesn’t stop; he’s a dedicated gym-goer who can often be found stretching or doing push-ups backstage to get that “pre-gig pump” before lighting up the stage.

James anchors the band with driving bass lines and confident backing vocals, bringing both power and precision to every performance. With over 20 years of experience in the music industry, James has toured the country extensively and built a career playing across a wide spectrum of bands, from hard-hitting hardcore and rock ’n’ roll outfits to polished function and live event bands. A versatile musician, he’s equally comfortable on bass or electric guitar, adapting effortlessly to the demands of any stage. Raised on the great songwriters and iconic bands of the 1970s, his taste spans pop, rock, and country all the way through to the intensity of hardcore music. This open-minded approach recently saw him spending time in the studio with a producer whose work has amassed over 3.5 billion streams worldwide, a testament to James’ ability to move fluidly between genres while staying rooted in great songcraft.

At weddings and live events, James brings swagger, meticulous preparation, and a deep respect for delivering music the way it’s meant to be heard — tight, authentic, and full of energy. Offstage, that same drive continues: he’s a regular in the gym, an avid runner, and a passionate home cook with a particular obsession for hot sauce, even growing his own chillies to fuel the fire.
